Co-Pastor, Head of Staff
Reverend Deborah J. McCreary was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is divorced and has a son and four grandchildren. She graduated from Aquinas College, majoring in psychology and sociology She obtained a Master of Arts degree, as a Family Life Educator, from Western Michigan University and a master of Divinity degree , at Western Theological Seminary, and was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament. Deborah has a passion for women and marginalized populations. She has been privileged to serve with various outreach ministries including Rose Haven Ministry, Mel Trotter Ministries, Alpha Prison Ministry, and Degage Ministries. She has preached, led women’s retreats and/or facilitated workshops in Michigan, New Jersey, the Virgin Islands, Chiapas, and Uganda. She is a daughter of Brown-Hutcherson Ministries having been trained under the leadership of Pastor Nathanial Moody. Pastor Deborah currently serves part-time as the Minister of Community engagement at Grace Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids and as a Coordinator of Mulick Park Reading Mentor Program.
Reverend Brian Madison was born in New Jersey. There he met Katie, his wife, while they both attended Drew University where he majored in history. He returned to his alma mater to work in college ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Raised Roman Catholic, he eventually found a home in the Reformed tradition and joined the Presbyterian Church (USA) prior to pursuing a Master of Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary. He continued studying Christian theology at Duke University. He and Katie moved to Grand Rapids with their two cats in 2008. Pastor Brian was ordained a Minister of Word and Sacrament in 2009 and has taught courses at Calvin College in Grand Rapids and Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI. He is particularly interested in congregation-based adult education and faith formation, small group ministry, and helping enrich contemporary Christian discipleship by connecting people to the deep thinking and rich lived experiences which have contributed to Christian teachings and history over the centuries.
Scott Pichard was born and raised in Orange County, CA with two older brothers. He grew up playing tennis and volleyball, two sports he still enjoys today. He graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, MA with majors in biblical studies and Christian Ministries. In 2011 Scott joined the PC (USA) and worked with foster children and youth in group homes at Olive Crest Family Services in Santa Ana, CA. Feeling called to pastoral ministry, Scott graduated in 2017 from Princeton Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and a Master of Arts degree in Christian Education and Formation. During seminary, he spent a summer at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA being trained in hospital chaplaincy and completed an academic year internship at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Trenton, NJ where he preached and taught adult education. Scott moved to Grand Rapids in June of this year, where he has many relatives nearby. He is an inquirer for ordination in the PC (USA) and is tremendously grateful for this opportunity to serve at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
Chelsea is a new Grand Rapids resident and eager to learn about the community. She is a City Year Boston AmeriCorps alum and graduate from Ball State University where she studied Interdisciplinary Studies – Community Activism and Development. She loves books and large dogs (and would love to dog sit anytime).
Minister of Music
David has a bachelor’s of Music degree which he received in 1979 from Western Michigan University as well as a Master of Arts degree in 2006 also from Western Michigan University. He brings over 40 Years of musical experience to Eastminster, including private instruction, solo and ensemble performance, and as teacher/director of various instrumental and vocal ensembles, including 21 Years as Director of Choirs in local churches.
Ray has degrees from Calvin College and Brown University. He has been an editor of theological books for thirty-five years and organist at Eastminster for twelve. He is married to Christie and has two daughters and one grandaughter.
